What will individual therapy look like?In our initial meetings together, you and I will identify what issues will be important to address in our work together. I view psychotherapy as a shared journey, whereby my clients and I commit to holding an open and honest dialogue with one another and adjust our focus as new and relevant themes emerge. In our sessions we will focus on many aspects of your experiences, including your thoughts, emotions, memories, and underlying bodily experiences. In this shared journey, it is important that we periodically reflect on where we are headed — and adjust our map and tools as necessary.
Each session will generally begin with a collaborative discussion to identify relevant concerns and issues, and will follow with an exploration of those themes through dialogue and experiential exercises. I also often encourage clients to continue our work together in between sessions. This might include self-reflection through awareness exercises, talking with others, or writing; trying new skills or mindfulness practices; experimenting with new behaviors or ways of relating to others; or trying out new ways of relating to yourself. |
